Melissa Murphy, a postdoctoral researcher at University College London, was as surprised as anyone to hear she’d won the Royal Geographical Society’s prestigious Gilchrist Fieldwork Award as it had only gone to senior academics before. In our first piece this week, she tells Sophie Inge how the experience has emboldened her. Applicants for the next round of the biennial award have plenty of time to get their bids in as it closes in February 2020.
