TSB opportunity profile: Additive manufacturing

The Technology Strategy Board is teaming up with three research councils in a £7-million competition designed to turn additive manufacturing into an industrial-scale technology. Robin Wilson, lead technologist for high-value manufacturing at the TSB, tells Rebecca Hill the technology is ready to break out from its roots in model-making.

Why has the TSB launched this call now?

The starting point was the high-value manufacturing strategy, published in May 2012, which identified 22 competencies on which to focus our efforts in the next three years.
