A major cross-council call in synthetic biology opens on 6 June. The BBSRC's Rowan McKibbin gave Penny Sarchet a preview of what is to come.
Background to this call
Late 2012 saw a windfall for the life sciences in the form of the chancellor’s Autumn Statement. As part of this, £50 million was put aside for synthetic biology. This call is an opportunity to bid for £10m of that cash as part of a joint BBSRC and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council call for centres taking a multidisciplinary approach to synthetic biology.
