Opportunity profile: Predicting the South Asian monsoon

NERC science programme officer David Roberts explains why a funding opportunity on the South Asian monsoon needs applicants to demonstrate impact. Interview Adam Smith.

What is this funding opportunity?

The Natural Environment Research Council and India’s Ministry of Earth Sciences are each putting £3 million into a collaborative research programme on drivers of variability in the South Asian monsoon. The deadline for outline bids is 22 July and they must come from joint teams from the UK and India. While NERC stresses that scientific excellence will be the primary criterion, demonstration of impact and use of the NERC/Met Office Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements aeroplane are important too.
