It took years for long-time friends Lisa Garforth and Amanda Rees to bring their differing research together, but when they did it broke Garforth’s spell of bad luck, to win with the AHRC.
Lisa Garforth, a sociologist at Newcastle University, and Amanda Rees, of the University of York, had been friends for years, but it hadn’t occurred to them to bring their research fields together. They brought Aberystwyth University historian Iwan Morus into the mix and won £750,000 from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to study how science-fiction writers and readers anticipate the future. We spoke to Garforth about the experience.
