Opportunity profile: Helping patients along the way to beating heart disease

Translational Research Project Grants from Heart Research UK offer up to £150,000 over three years to support work that will bridge the gap between basic research and patient care. Helen Wilson, the charity’s senior research officer, told James Brooks about its bench-to-bedside research.

Heart Research UK distributes around £1 million in research grants each year, mainly through two schemes: the Translational Research Project Grants and the Novel and Emerging Technology grants.

The charity recognises that prevention is as important as cure and so it also gives smaller grants to community groups to help people improve their lifestyles and decrease their risk of cardiovascular disease.
