Opportunity profile: Building better biomedical methods

The NIHR-MRC joint Methodology Research Programme programme looks set to fund proposals worth a total of around £4 million in 2016. The MRC’s David Crosby gives Lindsay McKenzie his tips on how applicants can stand out in the 2017 competition.

The Methodology Research Programme is co-funded by the National Institute for Health Research and the Medical Research Council. Its focus is to develop the methodology that underpins biomedical and health-related scientific research. The MRP has two calls a year, in June and November, and the next deadline is 21 June 2017.

In addition to standard methodology research grants, the MRC and NIHR have also opened a call for applications to lead a “methodology state-of-the art workshop” on measurement reactivity: the process by which a patient’s response to being tested can affect their results. The deadline for this call is 28 February 2017.
