Cancer Research UK’s Multidisciplinary Project Awards bring in engineers and physical scientists but the best bids still start with the clinical problem rather than fancy tech, Richard Muscat, CRUK’s research funding manager, tells Beckie Smith.
The Multidisciplinary Project Awards scheme, which is co-funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, has run twice a year since 2014. Up to £500,000 is available for projects of up to four years’ duration.
Projects should be led by at least two principal investigators: one working in cancer research and the other in any engineering or physical science discipline. Larger teams including co-investigators can also apply, and international and commercial organisations may be included in supporting roles.
