Heart Research UK is on the lookout for technology ideas with a clear line to patient benefit. This year, bids to improve heart surgery are particularly welcome, Helen Wilson, the charity’s research manager, tells Lila Randall.

Each year, Heart Research UK distributes about £1 million in research grants, mainly through two schemes: Translational Research Project Grants and the Novel and Emerging Technology Grants (NET).

This year, the deadline for applications to the Translational Research Project Grants scheme is 1 June, while outline applications to the NET scheme will close on 1 October.
