How can younger researchers engage with the Cooperative Research Centres programme?
While Australia’s record on research-industry collaboration still remains well below its international competitors’, many commentators have identified early-to-mid career researchers as more entrepreneurial in outlook and therefore likely drivers of a cultural change that could buck the trend.
While this may be so, many early-to-mid career researchers remain unaware of potential avenues to work with or in industry.
Perhaps the best-understood government mechanism that researchers can draw on to collaborate with other community sectors are the Linkage Grants provided by the Australian Research Council. But they do require relatively low industry involvement and the research is usually driven by academics.
