How a crowdsourced element in an AHRC fellowship led to follow-on funding
Top tips:
- Building in an interactive element in bids leaves open potential avenues for further research and can also enhance credibility on impact-focused proposals.
- If an element of a project looks time-or-labour consuming but could prove rewarding for hobbyists, consider crowdsourcing.
- Even for projects aligned very strongly with your personal research interests you will find willing and valuable collaborators.
Sharon Ruston, a professor of English at Lancaster University, was awarded £78,758 through the AHRC’s Follow-on Funding for Impact and Engagement scheme for her project to crowdsource transcriptions of the chemist and inventor Humphry Davy’s notebooks. She built her bid off the back of an AHRC Leadership Fellowship.
