The Stephen Hawking Fellowships offer theoretical physicists the chance to develop into inspiring scientists, Edward Clarke, project manager at the EPSRC, tells Ashleigh Furlong.
Edward’s top tips
- Eligibility requirements are broad so you should consider applying even if you do not fit the standard mould.
- Highlight how this fellowship will allow you to fulfil your next career goals.
- Institutional support is important for the scheme and letters should show how the applicant will be nurtured if they become a fellow.
- Research quality will be the leading criterion, but research impact should also be well laid out in all applications.
Launched by UK Research and Innovation on 7 May, the Stephen Hawking Fellowships aim to give an early-career leg-up to researchers in theoretical physics and the fundamental mathematical and computer sciences that underpin that field.
