A failed wide-ranging bid to the AHRC turned out to have the perfect ingredients for a smaller International Academic Fellowship proposal to the Leverhulme Trust, Fiona Handyside tells Sophie Inge.
Fiona’s top tips
- Don’t be afraid to recycle larger unsuccessful bids into a proposal more adapted to the Leverhulme Trust
- Consider applying to foreign funders in your host country to build on your activities
- Make sure you have a good spread of referees who are experts in their field and give them plenty of notice
- Think about how the host institution can contribute to your research for a stronger case
The Leverhulme Trust’s International Academic Fellowships enable established researchers to spend a period of time in one or more research centres outside the UK.
