Applicants for Stephen Hawking Fellowships should put science communication front and centre
- Familiarise yourself with other science communication projects before writing your communication plan.
- Do not be afraid to ask for resources to fund communication.
- Work out the practical aspects of your communication plan; you will probably need input from practitioners.
- Let your enthusiasm show in the interview and avoid giving a ‘bullet-point’ presentation.
Launched in May 2019 and profiled on Funding Insight, UK Research and Innovation’s Stephen Hawking Fellowships support postdoctoral researchers in theoretical physics or fundamental mathematical and computer sciences. The grants fund research projects, support the development of early career researchers and provide focused training in public engagement.
