How a music researcher scooped a Turing Fellowship

Tom’s top tips:

  • Don’t be afraid to start at the beginning in a field you know little about; buy a primer, read it and go from there.
  • Lean on those with the expertise you need for your bid to succeed.
  • In applications don’t pretend to understand fields you are not knowledgeable about and maybe even mention that you hope to boost your understanding of the topic.
  • At the same time be bold about what your experience allows you to bring in to the field.

The Alan Turing Institute supports several types of fellowships, some of them via partner arrangements with universities.
