Fellowships at the European University Institute offer more than the average postdoc position
- Explain what skills you are looking to gain through the fellowship, and how they will complement your existing experience
- Do your homework on the people you will be working with and their research area
- Use the introduction to make it clear why your research question is important now, and emphasis its implications
- Be proactive in contacting leading names in your field and ask if you can run your ideas by them
The first year of Balaraju Battu’s postdoctoral fellowship at the European University Institute has not gone entirely according to plan. Lab facilities at the institute, based in the Tuscan hills outside Florence in Italy, have been closed since March due to Covid-19, curtailing his research.
