The scheme that helps social scientists build policy impact from their work

The Regional Studies Association’s Policy Expo scheme has launched for 2021 with a deadline for applications of 20 April. Unsurprisingly, ‘pandemics’ is one of the scheme’s focus themes, alongside ‘social innovation, foundational sectors and regional economy’ and ‘the future of work, the gig economy and inclusive growth’. All bids should investigate how the communities of regional studies, regional science, urban studies and related fields can respond to challenges in those areas.

The scheme is particularly suited to researchers concluding a larger project or programme and looking to focus on the policy and practice implications of their work. Awards may only be worth £15,000 but that is no reflection of their potential impact in policy and academia, chief executive Sally Hardy told Eleni Courea in the run-up to the 2018 competition.
