Cooking up a fellowship bid so good you could eat it
A perennial struggle for those applying for fellowships or other individual awards is how to sell themselves without sounding like they are selling themselves, or even feeling like they are selling themselves (which will not be a nice feeling for many people).
One way out of this quandary was put forward by Deborah Brian, now senior research administration officer at the University of Queensland, Australia, when she suggested taking a distinctly culinary approach. Don’t think about selling yourself, Brian advised in this article from June 2018, think about serving your assessors a good, balanced meal.
