The Medical Research Foundation addresses the health impact of climate change in sub-Saharan Africa
Top tips
- Equitable partnerships must be at the centre of all bids
- New researcher partnerships are welcome and the foundation will offer support to help them solidify
- Projects must have a sense of urgency and lay out a plan for application
- Geographical location will be a consideration, as the foundation wants to fund research across sub-Saharan Africa
The Medical Research Foundation is one of several major medical research charities—famously including the Wellcome Trust—that has made the health impacts of climate change a priority for future research. Its latest scheme under this heading has £4 million to distribute to projects centred on sub-Saharan Africa and led by pairs of mid-career researchers in the UK and sub-Saharan Africa. In addition to supporting the research, the scheme also aims to help both researchers as they make the transition to research independence.
