The BBSRC scheme that helps researchers road-test potential commercial outputs
As was expected when Funding Insight profiled the final round of its pilot scheme in December 2022, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s Icure scheme returned this year, and with it its grant amounts raised.
Successful applicants to the current round of Icure grants, for which the deadline is 15 January, can win up to £35,000 to get out of the lab for up to three months to road-test bioscience-based ideas for their commercial potential. Other details from the pilot scheme, discussed below by Harry George, senior portfolio manager for enterprise at the BBSRC, may have also changed, and applicants should check the current call brief.
