My winning proposal: Plan ahead

It pays to think through every aspect of a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship bid

Top tips

  • This is a scheme for which public engagement is important and your bid should reflect that
  • Think through all the details of each proposed activity, even if you will not have the space to include them all
  • Keep staff in archives abreast of your bid to ensure feasibility
  • Spend time considering how to balance ambition for your project with its feasibility

The British Academy’s Mid-Career Fellowships allow successful applicants to obtain 6-12 months of time freed from normal teaching and administrative commitments. The time bought by the scheme should be devoted to the completion of a major piece of research, which should also include public engagement and communication elements.
