In April, the White Rose University Consortium of three northern English universities planted itself firmly at the heart of Europe. Now, Phil Holliday, European public affairs director of its Brussels office, explains the consortium’s post-Brexit plans.
Internationalisation has become an important activity for UK universities, which is why in April 2016 the White Rose University Consortium—a strategic partnership of three UK research-intensive universities, Leeds, Sheffield and York—opened an office in Brussels.
Its aims were: the long-term strategic positioning of the three universities to influence the European Union’s policymaking for research in Brussels; engaging in horizon-scanning and opportunity-spotting in strategic areas for the universities; and simple information gathering.
