Rewarding researchers for their impact on learning

Teaching is a hot topic at universities, so Sally Bradley, academic lead for professional learning and development at the Higher Education Academy, thinks it's high time to raise the profile of the academy’s fellowships.

Back in 2012 a category of Higher Education Academy fellowship was introduced to recognise the contribution and impact made by highly experienced higher education staff who could demonstrate effective strategic leadership in academic practice and academic development.

The Principal Fellowship of the HEA propelled the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning (2011) and HEA recognition beyond initial new-to-teaching courses to recognising the full career trajectory of those involved in teaching and learning in higher education.
