Prevention is better than cure for these frequent missteps in healthcare funding applications

This week in Funding Insight, we profile the National Institute for Health and Care Research’s new programme for social care research. In that article, programme director Martin Knapp said he hopes the scheme will attract bids from researchers from outside social care research, and who have not previously applied to NIHR.

Especially for researchers in that situation, we are republishing advice from Ferhana Hashem, who has several years’ experience helping applicants to NIHR programmes make the most of their bids. In this article, published in March 2022, she outlined the five most common—and “mostly preventable”—missteps that can cause bids to fall short when they come to be assessed.
