International student numbers at English universities have fallen for the first time in almost three decades.

Student numbers from India and Pakistan have halved since 2010, according to an analysis by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Undergraduate students from other countries within the European Union have also fallen sharply—down by 24 per cent in 2012-13 compared with the year before.
