Rise of the A-level equivalents

But universities continue to favour students holding A-levels.

More students are achieving top grades in their BTEC qualifications than in the past, but this is not translating into higher university participation, according to data from the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Between 2006 and 2013 the number of pupils who obtained just a BTEC qualification has almost doubled, while the number holding a mixture of A-levels and BTEC qualifications increased tenfold. Particular growth was seen among pupils achieving one BTEC and two A-levels.
