The most selective universities place the least emphasis on teaching qualifications.
Lecturers at the most competitive universities are the least likely to hold teaching qualifications, according to data published on 9 December by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
A breakdown of the data by institutions shows that the five universities where fewer than 10 per cent of lecturers held a teaching qualification in 2014-15 were the London Business School, the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of Cambridge, the Royal College of Music and Goldsmiths College.
