More than 20 universities see carbon emissions rise

Hesa data reveal some institutions are out of step with overall reduction trend

More than 20 higher education institutions have recorded an increase in their carbon emissions between 2017-18 and 2018-9, despite a reduction across the sector as a whole during that time.

According to data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, UK universities saw a 3 per cent year-on-year fall in their total energy consumption year on year, while their carbon dioxide emissions fell by 7 per cent
