Office for Students hands out first fine

The University of Hertfordshire has been fined £66,000 by the Office for Students, which called it ‘seriously negligent’ for breaching its access agreement.

According to the OfS, the University of Hertfordshire breached its access agreement when 44 students were charged £9,000 tuition fees for franchised courses provided by a partner college in 2016-17. The regulator says these students should have been charged £6,000.

The university is the first to be fined by the OfS.
