The UK’s new higher education information website will not include data on the proportion of firsts and 2:1s awarded by universities, because of concerns that doing so could fuel grade inflation.
Unlike its predecessor Unistats, the Discover Uni site—which launched on 12 September—will not allow prospective students to find out degree classification information from different institutions.
The Office for Students, which is one of the operators of the website, is concerned that providing such information would contradict its tough stance on grade inflation. In December, the OfS warned that public trust in universities was at risk because of “spiralling grade inflation”.
