OfS urges ‘crucial’ support for disadvantaged students

England’s regulator calls for universities to support new recruits from disadvantaged backgrounds

The Office for Students has said it is “crucial” that high-tariff universities support their larger cohorts of disadvantaged students this year, after numbers grew by more than 20 per cent.

An OfS analysis of data published by the admissions body Ucas revealed that compared with data from 2019, there was a 22 per cent increase in the number of students from Polar quintile one areas, which have the lowest proportion of higher education participation.
