New guidelines lay out universities’ consumer law compliance duties.
Universities must be upfront with prospective students about what they will get for their money, according to guidance published today by the Competition and Markets Authority, the successor organisation to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading.
The advice aims to help higher education providers comply with consumer law and ensure that students know their rights. It instructs universities to give students “clear, accurate and timely” information so they can make informed decisions about their choice of study. Complaint handling processes should be “accessible, clear and fair”, it says.
