UCU defends transgender inclusion statement

Union faces backlash over policy allowing members to self-identify on gender

The University and College Union has defended its new position on transgender inclusion, after attracting fierce criticism from some academics.

In a statement published earlier this week, the UCU said it had a “long history of enabling members to self-identify whether that is being Black, disabled, LGBT+ or women”.
