Report calls for streamlined system for higher technical education

The fragmented nature of higher technical education in England means it has been unable to compete effectively with traditional three-year degrees, a report has claimed.

According to Beyond the Missing Middle, published by the Gatsby Foundation, there were 3,368 different level 4 and 5 qualifications available to students in 2016-17. Of these, 735 were developed by independent awarding organisations and 2,633 by higher education institutions.
