Free speech under threat at most universities, claims report

Thanks tank calls for government intervention to ringfence freedom of expression

Around half of UK universities do not adequately protect free speech, a think tank has claimed.

In a report on freedom of expression in universities published on 17 December, the right-leaning think tank Civitas found that of 137 UK universities, 48 were “performing badly on free speech” while 70 institutions “are not performing as well as they should”.
