Union pleads for donations to boost strike fund

     

UCU asks for payments to avoid imposing a £15 levy on members

Better-off members and individual branches of the University and College Union have been asked to donate to its struggling strike fund following anger over a proposed membership levy.

In an email to members on 29 June, UCU general secretary Jo Grady called for members and local union branches to chip in to bolster the union’s “fighting fund”, which has taken a £4.5 million hit in the past two years as the union has taken industrial action over pay and pensions.
