Universities deny accusation they are ‘flouting’ Covid rules

Three institutions reject claims they are not following government guidance

Three universities have denied claims by the University and College Union that they are “flouting” the government’s Covid-19 safety guidelines.

The UCU claims that Edge Hill University, the University of Oxford and Manchester Metropolitan University are in breach of government guidelines. These stipulate that from 8 March in-person teaching can resume if subjects are practical or practice-based and required specialist equipment and facilities, and stress that “providers should not ask students to return if their course can reasonably be continued online”.
