Universities Superannuation Scheme opts for solar investment

University pension scheme puts £200 million into solar after pledging to decarbonise its portfolio

The Universities Superannuation Scheme has invested £200 million in a solar energy firm, weeks after promising to decarbonise its investments.

On 17 May the USS confirmed that it had taken a 50 per cent stake in Bruc Energy, a Spanish solar energy organisation, worth £200m. Bruc Energy plans to create 4,000 megawatts of solar photovoltaic farms, and it is looking to invest in other renewables such as wind power.
