We need fusion, not separation

The future of energy depends on the UK maintaining a healthy relationship with Euratom.

When the UK formally signalled its intent to leave the European Union by invoking Article 50 in March, it also made clear that it would leave the European Atomic Energy Community, or Euratom. Euratom is a treaty that brings together knowledge, infrastructure and funding for nuclear energy in Europe, ensuring the security and safety of supply through a Europe-wide safeguarding and inspection regime.

The consequences will be felt throughout the nuclear industry in the UK, from the construction of Hinkley Point C to nuclear fusion research. Fusion is the process that powers the sun and the stars, and bringing it to Earth has long been viewed as the Holy Grail of energy. It is an energy source that uses water instead of burning fossil fuels. It produces no long-lived waste and can operate alongside solar, wind and other renewables to help power the world to a carbon-free future.
