One in five EU nationals to fast-track UK study plans, survey finds

EU students aim to start before fees increase in 2021-22

A fifth of people from the European Union who are considering studying in the UK plan to start their course earlier than they originally intended because the price of tuition is set to soar after the next academic year, a survey has suggested.

In a written statement on 23 June, universities minister Michelle Donelan confirmed that from 2021, EU students would no longer be eligible for “home fee status”—meaning that universities will be able to charge them the same fees as they charge to non-European international students. While the UK was in the EU, institutions were not permitted to charge other EU nationals more than the maximum of £9,250 a year that domestic students pay.
