MPs ask the government to put universities "centre stage".
Universities are “fully represented” by Greg Clark, the business secretary, MPs were told on 23 November.
Jo Johnson, the universities and science minister, sought to allay concerns that the voice of higher education will be lost in the Brexit negotiations since he is not part of the team. Instead he said that Clark, whose department’s brief covers science and research but not universities more widely, will take on this role. The other members include: Theresa May; chancellor Philip Hammond; Amber Rudd, home secretary; Boris Johnson, foreign secretary; David Davis, Brexit secretary; Liam Fox, international trade secretary; Damian Green, work and pensions secretary; Chris Grayling, transport secretary; Andrea Leadsom, environment secretary; Priti Patel, international development secretary; and Patrick McLoughlin, who chairs the Conservative Party.
