Opposition MPs prepare to fight higher education reforms

But say they expect the real changes to happen in the Lords.

Opposition MPs have tabled amendments to the higher education and research bill aimed at strengthening the barriers to market entry ahead of the report stage on 21 November, the last chance the Commons will have to debate the draft legislation before it moves to the Lords.

Labour, Scottish National Party and Liberal Democrat MPs told HE that they are joining forces in areas of shared interest to push government to amend the bill. They said they expected to resort to lobbying peers in order to secure any further amendments, but that they hoped the debates in the Commons next week would inform scrutiny in the Lords.
