Tighter controls announced for students’ return to campus

Education secretary reveals more restrictions on which students can go back in January

Fewer university students will be allowed to return to campuses in January than initially promised as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to rise across the UK.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson confirmed to MPs on 30 December that the government had asked universities to “reduce the number of students who return to campus at the start of January, prioritising students who require practical learning to gain their professional qualifications”.
