January start mooted for students taking autumn A levels

But Research Professional News understands ministers will let universities decide dates

Education secretary Gavin Williamson says that a “late clearing process” will enable students who take autumn A level exams to begin university in January, but Research Professional News understands not all courses would be able to offer January starts.

Williamson told the BBC Today programme on 13 August that ministers had “had early discussions” with universities about “making sure there is a system of clearing that can be run for youngsters to be able to start their university a little bit later than they would have ideally been wanting to” in the autumn.
