Prime minister bemoans glut of graduates amid skills shortages

Prime minister Boris Johnson has pledged to end the “bogus distinction” between further and higher education by opening up the student funding system.

In a speech on 29 September, Johnson promised to fix the “pointless, nonsensical gulf” between academic and technical education as he set out the government’s plan to encourage adults to retrain as a result of job losses during the coronavirus pandemic.
