DfE publishes guidance on Prevent compliance

Guidance explores balance between Prevent and free speech duties

The government has released guidance designed to help universities in England comply with its anti-extremism programme Prevent while meeting their requirements to promote free speech.

On 1 April the government released materials for universities to help train staff on their duties under Prevent, which aims to stop people becoming radicalised. Some have argued that Prevent discourages free speech in universities, but the government also wants institutions to prove they are promoting freedom of expression on campus.
