Access to the “exceptional talent” visa is broadening, but some from the Middle East will find it tougher to get the much more popular student visa.

James Brokenshire, the immigration minister, has confirmed changes to the little-used tier 1 visa for those with “exceptional talent” to work in the UK, a written statement to Parliament. The visa is supposed to allow top graduates to stay and work in the UK after finishing their study.

Under the changes announced today, Tech City UK, a group representing east London’s cluster of technology companies, will be allowed to endorse up to 200 graduates for the visa.
