The government appears undecided over student finances
The prime minister, in an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph, said that an external commission would undertake a review of student finance, news that was briefed extensively to journalists on Sunday.
However, as the day progressed the extent of the review unravelled as the government rowed back. First education minister Justine Greening denied there would be a commission and then the PM’s “fees revolution” as reported that morning was downgraded to a “tweak” of the status quo.
