Universities UK has produced a wish list for the next prime minister, calling on them to work with higher education institutions to “drive economic growth and social mobility”.

Ten MPs are vying to become leader of the Conservative Party after Theresa May (pictured) officially stepped down from the role on 7 June. May will remain UK prime minister until the next leader is elected on 22 July.

“Our universities, their students and staff are vital to the UK’s future success,” said Alistair Jarvis, UUK’s chief executive. “Policies to support and enhance the positive impact of universities should be priorities for the next prime minister.”
