Rebecca Long-Bailey and former leader Ed Miliband join Keir Starmer’s shadow cabinet

Former Labour Party leadership candidate Rebecca Long-Bailey has taken over from Angela Rayner as shadow education secretary, while former party leader Ed Miliband has become shadow business, energy and industrial secretary.

Long-Bailey, a prominent supporter of outgoing party leader Jeremy Corbyn, has replaced Angela Rayner in the education brief. Rayner became the Labour Party’s deputy leader after the leadership election closed on 2 April, winning 41.7 per cent of the vote. She has also been appointed Chair of the Labour Party.
